Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid was inaugurated in 1947 and is owned by Real Madrid. With a capacity of over 80,000 spectators, is a relatively large arena, we might say.
Surface has seen renowned competitions like the European Championship finals in 1957, 1969 and 1980, UEFA Champions League final in 2010 or 1982 World Cup.
In June 1944, less than a year ago became president of FC Real Madrid Santiago Bernabeu Yeste borrowing to build what would become a symbol of world football. Work began in October 1944 and ended in 1947, when it was opening match between FC and Real Madrid and Portuguese from Os Belenenses.
Initial capacity of the arena was 75,145 spectators, including 47,500 seats were up. In 1954 however, when it was the first extensive renovation operation, capacity increased to 125,000, Santiago Bernabeu stadium becoming the largest of all participants at the European Championship that year.
The following changes have been made in 1982, 1992 and 2001 and consisted in covering the two-thirds of the seats, installing electronic tables, effective evacuation plan and generally improving the facilities available to all.
